New year and another new addition to my role. There’s not a person alive in the UK that can’t have failed to notice that the UK has fully completed its withdrawal from the EU on 1st January 2021 after years of planning, filibustering, public and professional concern (and even a few recriminations to boot). Finished is the arguments about should we leave and a new beginning about what this great country of ours will now do with its future relationship with the EU and the EFTA countries (of Norway, Lichtenstein, Iceland & Switzerland). Like any new relationship, it’s going to create a lot of doubt and anxiety, particularly amongst business owners, many of whom have never known any different, having worked with dedicated systems, administration and hauliers who’ve shuttled back and forth across the English Channel.
This is why I’m especially pleased to be able to announce that I’ve been appointed to extend my support of those working in the SME community across the whole of the Midlands and it’s six regional Growth Hubs (of Coventry & Warwickshire LEP, Greater Birmingham & Solihull, the Black Country Growth Hub, Stoke on Trent & Staffordshire, Worcestershire Business Central and the Marches Growth Hub). Our temporary role will be an important one (until such times as its proven to bring genuine opportunity and strategic vision) for those who stand to benefit from it most. So, firms that work in any sector but especially Retail, Transport & Logistics, Service, Advanced Manufacturing & Engineering, Construction. Chemicals, Electronics & Machinery, Life Sciences and Consumer Goods are encouraged to visit the EU Transition Business Support Diagnostic and register their interest and either myself or one of my advisor colleagues will get back in touch to understand better what support you need.
