A-Level Career Academy & Warwickshire College
Nov 2013
Earlier this year Genesis DM was invited to attend an event aimed at connecting specific numbers of high-flying college students to local businesses. The event is a national initiative led by Career Academies UK (see and fronted in our region by Warwickshire College. Although prior engagements prevented us from attending the launch, we were very keen to discover more as the programme further complemented the work we do already with local schools. The steering group invited our managing director (Nigel Davis) to lend his support for the programme, and today, marked his first LAB (Local Academy Board) meeting. The group consisted of staff from Warwickshire College and several commercial businesses within the region. Nigel was made to feel very welcome by all, especially Sarah Ranson, Curriculum Administration Manager and Lynne Clarke, Academy Manager from Warwickshire College as well as LAB Chairman, Dave Davies from Barclays. The programme has many facets, as well as the LAB meetings there are inspirational ‘Guru Lectures’ and the opportunity for a company to become a ‘PIB’ (Partner in Business). These companies offer a 4-6 week internship to matched students and will ultimately have the most to gain from the programme. What marks this scheme out from other employee/employer co-operatives, is that despite leaving school at 16, these students have been identified as having a real ‘fire in their belly’ to succeed; they should be seen by potential employers as being those who have ‘a desire to make it in business’, not a ‘desire to leave school’ They are clearly going to benefit whichever employer they ultimately work with. Consequently each student applicant has been carefully interviewed by members of the LAB for one of the few limited places. We hope that once the current 2013-2014 pilot has been completed that companies will be matched to more students in subsequent years. We look forward to lending our further support, but for now, Nigel would like to thank his fellow LAB members for their hospitality today.

Splice the mainbrace!
Sept 2013
One of our clients, Royal Warrant holder J. Preedy & Sons Ltd celebrated its Centenary today by organising (with a little help from GDM) a party for its staff, customers, suppliers and family, on-board the cruising vessel the Pride of London. The company closed its doors for the day, the first time this had ever happened despite the attempts of two World Wars. Everyone gathered at Festival Pier for photographs and the cruise up the River Thames, including former staff from as far away as Scotland and customers from mainland Europe. The day was organised in part by Genesis DM, who oversaw the event (and the closure of the companies three London factories)...oops!

Coronation Festival - what a showcase!
Jul 2013
After nearly a year in the planning, our four Royal Warrant holding companies and ourselves attended the Coronation Festival in the gardens of Buckingham Palace over four days (11th - 14th July). Over two hundred firms, all proud to display their Warrants gathered to promote their goods and services to consumers and trade buyers from around the globe. During most evenings they were entertained by Katherine Jenkins, Russell Watson, Katie Melua, Laura Wright and The National Youth Orchestra. However the highlight for us was a special visit to the stand from Her Majesty the Queen.

Warwickshire College - A-Level Career Academy

Forever keen to help students raise their understanding of the world of commerce, we often support local schools within a 30 mile radius by taking part in mentoring, coaching, interviewing or Entrepreneurship programmes. However, in June I heard from Warwickshire College who were starting a programme to help 16-19 year olds who perhaps hadn't had the best support in their early years. Having discovered more about the candidates, our M.D, Nigel Davis was approached with a view of taking an active part giving Guru lectures and to become a part of the local board. Something which he was only too pleased to be able to contribute to. The first sessions are scheduled for the Autumn/winter term.

Appointed to develop a systematic approach the management of this event, we're delighted to be able to confirm that our plans have been well received by all those companies that appointed us to serve their attendance at this historic event. As well as building the public relations activity with a cross section of specialist consumer and trade magazines, we've been busy planning new product launches, their associated websites, the brand extension of the sustainable room feature, logistics and marketing collateral. Today the festival's organisers announced a star studded line-up that included Katherine Jenkins, Russell Watson and Katie Melua amongst many others.

Crystal Clear
Feb 2013
Bespoke glazier and Royal Warrant Holder J. Preedy & Sons Ltd felt appointing Genesis DM to deliver its marketing strategy was crystal clear to the board. The Warrant holder, who marks its centenary this year, has taken this step to build further on the success of the company. Genesis DM have been appointed to undertake a wide remit, much of which we cannot disclose. I'm very excited at the prospect of working with such a long established company as Preedy Glass said Nigel Davis, Managing Director of GDM.
